Frequently asked questions
How many backyard ultras are there in Catalonia?
Our archive holds 16 verified races in Catalonia, spread across 4 provinces (Girona, 5; Barcelona, 4; Tarragona, 4; Lleida, 3). There is no official census of the Spanish calendar, so this is what we have checked one by one with the organiser or the official timing: if you know one that is missing, you can suggest it and we’ll add it once we’ve checked it.
When is the next backyard in Catalonia?
The soonest of those with a confirmed edition is Backyard Ultra Llagostera, in Llagostera, on 05 DEC 2026. Each race’s page has its official website, the registration status and the closing date, which is where they are kept up to date.
What exactly is a backyard ultra?
A last one standing race: everyone sets off together to complete a 6.71 km loop within an hour and, at the top of the next hour, sets off again. The last one still standing wins and everyone else is listed as DNF, so there is no target time and no distance set in advance: 24 loops make 100 miles.
